A Handwriting of Stripes
October - November 2019
Brief: Live brief with interiors and lifestyle brand Roger Oates Design. Adopting the Roger Oates handwriting and exploring new stripe possibilities for their rugs and runners.
Concept: Drawing inspiration from the landscape of the Cambrian mountains, as well as my own hand spun yarn, I explored ideas surrounding control vs. uncontrollable. Looking at the stripes that happen naturally when plying yarn, as well as taking impulsive yarn windings and then controlling them by picking out and emphasizing sections. My final outcomes were chosen by Roger Oates Design to be produced as a rug.
Techniques used: Replicating Flatweave rugs by putting striping in weft, Rib, Herringbone, Hand spinning yarn.
